For LGBTQ community

Here at the Whole Soul Community, we have embraced the North American liberal Jewish tradition of celebrating Shabbat Pride.
We adapted this tradition to our Israeli and Jerusalem community, and this is just one expression of our commitment to equality for the LGBTQ community.
For many years, Pride Shabbat has become the most significant event on our calendar. Many LGBTQ members attend our services on this Shabbat and find in it a significant connection to their Jewish identity and to Jewish tradition, which in many cases is not so welcoming to LGBTQ people.
For us, this is an opportunity to celebrate our shared Jewish values – for straight and LGBTQ people alike.
Together with the Movement for Progressive Judaism in Israel, we called on Reform communities to celebrate Shabbat Gaya. They rose to the challenge. To support them, we created a booklet with guidelines for Shabbat Gaya celebrations in progressive communities in Israel.
As a result, we worked with seven additional communities from north to south to help them create their own model for Shabbat Pride.
We are proud and happy to see our liberal, modern, Jewish, and tolerant model flourishing among more and more communities. Yes, they will!
