The Bar and bat mitzvah Program at the Kol Neshemsha Community
Led by Rabbi Oded Mazor
What will we have?
In a 13-session program, we will learn about the meaning of the "age of commandments" in Jewish tradition and its place in the circle of life and Jewish heritage. We will go through a process of self-discovery, family and community and deepen the connections between these circles while strengthening the sense of responsibility to be involved in what is happening around us. We will ask, who am I? What is my place and role in shaping my life? My family? My people and my world?
In the program, we will learn about the meaning of the traditional Aliyah ceremony, its components and possibilities, and will also deal with additional coming-of-age ceremonies in Israeli culture and other cultures.
The process is personal, family and group and is designed to allow the children of the mitzvot and their families to better understand the meanings of the ceremony, to take an active part in choosing and designing the ceremony according to personal and family values so that the event is experiential, enriching and meaningful.
Participants who intend to enter the Torah will be able to study the biblical themes and prepare for the Torah entrance in parallel with group meetings with a teacher from within the community (it is also possible to study with an outside teacher, by prior arrangement with Rabbi Oded).
